Hawaiian Roaster and Coffee is Recognized Amongst the World's Best.
A group of locals achieved the impossible by representing Hawaii well on the world's stage.

ATLANTA, GA, April 29, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For the first time in history, a Hawaiian roaster and coffee was recognized as one of the best in the world. Dan Tang of Aroma Trading Company Inc. featured Pavaraga Coffee and placed 10th in the 2009 SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) Roasters Choice Tasting Competition.

From seed to cup, a lot of activity takes place before consumers enjoy their cup of specialty coffee. A vital link in this process is the professional coffee roaster. These "master" roasters, dubbed as the iron chefs of the coffee world, take to this craft very seriously. They roast green coffee beans until they find the perfect profile for that coffee in order to bring out its best flavor characteristics. This year, the country's top master roasters featured some of the world's most exceptionally roasted coffees in an exciting demonstration of the profession.

All Roasters Guild members---about 370---were invited to participate in the competition. To determine a winner, each conference attendee (8,000+) in Atlanta cast one vote for the best coffee.

"I am honored to be recognized as one of the world's best (roaster) among my peers and the coffee community from around world." said Dan Tang of locally based Aroma Trading Co Inc. "I am proud that Hawaiian coffee will get the recognition it has long deserved and I am glad to have been a part of it."

Prior to the competition, Dan Tang consulted with Tomi Tangonan at Pavaraga Coffee Co who recommended their private stock of excellently prepared beans from Ruby & Amy Javar Farms of Pahala. "Although coffee does grow in all parts of Hawaii, we feel that the difference in our coffee has been the right processing and farming techniques on a consistent basis. And it would help tremendously to have a master roaster on your side" said Ruby Javar whose submission originated from his own backyard.

"After I profiled their (Pavaraga) coffee, I knew we would have a good chance in reaching the top ten." said Dan Tang. "I respect all the coffees from every region in Hawaii. I believe they can all be really good if prepared correctly. The real credit for my success goes to the local farmers in Hawaii who have provided me the ingredients I needed to brew a perfect cup of roast coffee."
