Leading Civil Union Advocates Featured in Award-Winning Photograph
A portrait of Tambry Young, Suzanne King and their daughter, Shylar earned photographer Mike Ang the 'Voices of Resistance' Award from Hawaii Pacific University's First Look Festival.
HONOLULU, HI, May 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A portrait of Equality Hawaii Co-chair Tambry Young, with her spouse Suzanne King, treasurer of Citizens for Equal Rights, and their daughter, Shylar, recently earned photographer Mike Ang the 'Voices of Resistance' award from Hawaii Pacific University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
"We are proud to see that Mike's fine work, Hawaii Family Portraits, is drawing the recognition it deserves," said Young.
The photograph entitled "Protecting Our Family" is part of the Hawaii Family Portraits exhibit, which features local LGBT families to build understanding of the diversity of families and their needs in Hawaii. This exhibit has traveled from the state Capitol, to Borders Books & Music, Sen. Gary Hooser's campaign headquarters for Lieutenant Governor on Nu'uanu and King Street, Hawaii Pacific University, and is now at in the Sullivan Library at Chaminade University for the remaining days in May.
Ang received his award at the First Look Mixed Media Festival an annual HPU event held to show case works by students, faculty, and staff. First Look is coordinated by the Multimedia Program in HPU's Department of Communication, and is designed to introduce the work of HPU students and faculty to the community. The exhibition features a range of artwork and media such as photography, paintings, cinematic productions, flash animation, computer graphic images, sculpture, mixed media art, and more. The award-winning works from the festival are featured at Cafe Che Pasta in downtown Honolulu running through May 29th.
