Savant Books and Publications Announces the Release of Mike Farris' Hawaii Murder-Mystery Novel, "Kanaka Blues."
Savant Books and Publications LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii, publishers of significant books and enduring media for the 21st century, is pleased to announce the release of Mike Farris's new Hawaii murder-mystery novel, "Kanaka Blues."

HONOLULU, HI, June 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Law professor Erin Hanna comes to the islands after her mentor disappears while investigating native Hawaiian sovereignty claims for the U.S. Senate. After his body is discovered by snorkelers near Molokini Atoll, Erin realizes the only way to find out who killed him is to recreate his investigation. The police suspect an outlaw sovereignty leader named Manu Pokui for the murder, but Erin believes Manu is being set up. Out to prove his innocence, she finds herself squarely in the sights of the real killers.

Author Mike Farris is an attorney with the Dallas, Texas law firm of Tipton Jones, whose practice includes commercial litigation as well as entertainment law, focusing on the movie and publishing industries. His legal background, combined with his love of Hawaii and his meticulous research into the legal intricacies of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement, adds a sense of concrete realism to the story.

"Kanaka Blues is more than a murder-mystery," says Farris, "just as Hawaiian sovereignty is more than merely an academic debate. It's a flesh and blood struggle by Native Hawaiians to find and hold onto their history, their language, their land, and their identity. Even before President Clinton signed the Apology Resolution in 1993, apologizing for the role of the United States in the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy a century earlier, sovereignty was a hot-button issue in the islands. While I was writing this, the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act (also known as the Akaka Bill), which is the model for the novel's Hasegawa Bill, was working its way through the United States Senate. Kanaka Blues is a great introduction to Hawaii, sovereignty, and the inherently human question of who we really are in this increasingly complex, rapidly-blending world."

Kanaka Blues by Mike Farris - 352 pages - 6" x 9" color softcover. ISBN 978-0-9845552-1-5. Suggested retail price $16.95. Released in June 2010 by Savant Books and Publications, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.
